Pan-African Perspectives Essay Competition

We believe the most sustainable change must come from within and that the greatest hope for the future lies with the youth. In line with our mission, the Pan-African Perspectives Essay Competition invites African youth to engage the world with their thoughts and concerns on the issues that matter most to them.  The competition is designed to challenge African youth to articulate their ideas concerning the opportunities and obstacles pertaining to African development .

The goal of the competition is to build a global network of students, practitioners, educators, scholars, and citizens interested in African development.  This network will help us identify new approaches and initiatives for future action-driven projects for our organization.  Our main objective is to voice the opinions of people with a diverse background on the issue of African development. The creation of competition questions and judging of submissions will be overseen by an advisory network of prominent scholars and practitioners. We will publish the essays online along with contributions from the advisory network.

While open to all African youth living in and out of the continent and Georgia Tech students, the essay competition will rely on local student networks within Africa to fuel interest in the competition.  Educational material on development issues will be distributed to participating schools as a launching point for discussion among students. We hope to collect a broad range of perspectives within Africa and to collaborate with these countries for future action-driven projects.

We plan to launch the competition on November 15th 2007. Check back for more details...
