Afric@Tech is the year-long African awareness initiative of GT-IDEA with the aim of promoting awareness of African issues to Georgia Tech and its surrounding communities as well as inspiring students to work towards implementing action-driven solutions to those issues. It is our hope that students will come out to these events and learn to use their knowledge and technical skills to contribute to the development of the African continent. Unlike the Collaborative Teaching Project and the Pan-African Perspectives Essay Competition, Afric@Tech is the only division of GT-IDEA whose efforts are not focused mainly in Africa.
The ultimate goal of Afric@Tech is to raise awareness of African issues, and to bring those issues to the forefront (awareness that evokes activism).By hosting regular dialogs between practitioners, scholars and students on topics ranging from post-genocide reconciliation using information technology to the value of economic integration between African nations, Afric@Tech will cover a broad range of topics that cater to various interests.
